The Festival ppIANISSIMO for contemporary and early classical music is a unique event in the international practice in terms of its conception. It is focused mainly on the inexhaustable features offered by the piano as a keyboard and percussion instrument. Apart from being a "laboratory" for contemporary art, the festival is also a creative platform for reknown and debuting performers who explore the complex processes of contemporary piano music. In the previous fourteen editions, the festival offered its stage to 220 performers and about 300 composers. A large number of the pianists and authors who made their debut at ppIANISSIMO have become leading figures of contemporary art. Almost every concert includes world or Bulgarian premieres. With its fifteenth edition in 2012, the festival has the ambition to broaden its thematic spectrum by including programmes with historic keyboard instruments. Co-organiser of the ppIANISSIMO is the Bulgarian National Radio.
