Windsurfing

Bulgarian nature offers wonderful possibilities to practice water tourism (kanyoning, white-water rafting, water caves, kayaking, windsurfing, etc.). There are dozens of rivers and dams along which, throughout the entire year, water tourism can be practiced. This is an exciting form of active relaxation, which can be enjoyed by people of different ages. The variety of proposed routes and the application of many skills and qualities make trips exceptionally attractive. The daily rowing, swimming and fishing, staying at a different place every night, and making new friends make this type of tourism a very exciting and intriguing experience.

Water tourism became an integral part of the general system of Bulgarian tourism and a  federation of water tourism was created. Presently, marches along many of Bulgaria's rivers (Iskar, Ogosta, Yantra, Vit, Osym, Struma, Maritsa, Tundzha, Arda and others) are organized, as well as participation in the international water march along the Danube River. Marches on the many Bulgarian dams are sometimes even more interesting. The majority of dams offer access to exceptionally picturesque places and breathtaking views. The possibility to combine marches on rivers and dams with the pedestrian passages near dams makes this form of tourism more attractive. It allows you to touch and feel like a part of the surrounding beauty of Bulgarian nature.

Windsurfing is one of the most popular water sports in the world. Black Sea is a great place for the fans of windsurfing visiting Bulgaria. Several windsurfing competitions take place every year. Water is warm in summer and bright sunny days are abundant. Wind speed varies and in general is higher by the late afternoon. There are a number of windsurfing clubs along the Black Sea shore that provide training and quality equipment for rent. Summer is the preferred season, simply because the water is warm and there are plenty of sun, but early fall (September) and late spring in Bulgaria also offer good surfing conditions. For more experienced surfers who enjoy high speed September offers better chances to have more wind than in July or August.

Sunny Beach, Albena and Golden Sands are prime spots if you like to have the comfort of 3- and 4-star hotels with air conditioning and many good restaurants and night clubs around. If you prefer the solitude and the wild, then you can go south along the Black Sea shore to Arapia camping or to small towns like Kiten, Sinemorets, Tserovo. In this case you will need your own surfing equipment. Transfers, transportation, windsurfing equipment and storage, as well as accommodation and trainings can be arranged upon request.

Whitewater rafting gives people the opportunity to see exciting parts of Bulgaria while practising their favourite sport. While going on a white-water rafting holiday, it is quite possible to combine attractions on the way. If one has never gone rafting on the rivers Arda, Struma, Mesta, Beli Vit and Cherni Vit, he has missed the experience of a lifetime. For travellers who plan to spend a couple of days, a week or more in Bulgaria and practice whitewater rafting, these whitewater rafting trips can be combined with a day of rock climbing, horseback riding, hiking, mountain biking and other outdoor activities. The best period for whitewater rafting in Bulgaria is from May to September.
