St. Dimitar of Thessaloniki is a medieval Orthodox church that lies at the northeastern foot of the Trapezitsa and Tsarevets hills, on the right bank of Yantra River, outside the city's medieval fortifications. It was once part of a large monastery and belonged in its southeastern part. According to the account of Niketas Choniates, the church was the place where the anti-Byzantine Uprising of Asen and Peter was proclaimed in 1185. |
