Sofia Zoo is one of the oldest and biggest zoos on the Balkan Peninsula. It was founded in the beginning of 1888 by Prince Ferdinand. The zoo quickly got a great popularity and soon became a place for rest, entertainment and knowledge. It hires very famous and well-known specialists who raise precious and rare animals. The zoo was moved in 1982 from its small place in Sofia city centre to Lozenetz Quarter, covering an area of 360 dka.
