Samovodska Charshiya was set up in the sixties of 19th century when Tarnovo began to grow west of the economic center Bazhdarlak. It consists of two streets with commercial shops, workshops and inns. One of them starts from a small square, now known as Samovodski market. During the years of the Revival here were situated charshiyas (streets), which are differentiated by the crafts of the people, working there, Hadji Davidov’s, Hadji Velikov’s and Atanas Yonoolu inns. In the small street which starts west of Samovodski market, along with craftsmen workshops is the preserved Hadji Nikoli inn. After the Liberation this part of Tarnovo kept the tradition of handicrafts. It became a symbol of the craftsmanship of the old city along with the typical Revival houses from the end of the 19th century. Among them is the house of Emilian Stanev. Nowadays there are many shops for souvenirs and antiques as well as preserved craftsmen’s shops. |
