In the end of July and the beginning of August, Plovdiv becomes an open-air venue for one of the largest folklore festivals in Bulgaria. It starts with procession on the main street of the city and folklore performances on the Ancient Theatre. The program includes live performances of folklore ensembles from Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Serbia, Moldavia, Russia, Georgia, Belorussia, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, France, Egypt, Nigeria, Mexico, Portugal, Costa Rica, India, etc. All the concerts are with free admission. Those take place on the Ancient Theatre and the stage, put together for the festivities on Stefan Stambolov Square.
