Every issue of "Piring Sings" festival is a vivid celebration and a lesson on the preservation of traditions and customs. Already for half a century on the high meadows of Predela, close by the town of Razlog, people from all of Southwestern Bulgaria gather to popularize the folklore of this region – popular as Pirin Macedonia. The event takes place in the beginning of August. In 2012, more than 2500 participants and 30 000 spectators created unforgettable atmosphere. How one Belgian historian describes it? "I got familiar with the Bulgarian songs and dances 20 years ago on the festival in Koprivshtitsa and I fell in love with them. I am here after a course for Bulgarian traditional dances in Blagoevgrad with the choreographer Nikolay Tsvetkov. I learned to dance "horo" from Petrich, Dobrudzha and Shopsko. The place of the festival is romantic and very beautiful! I prefer "Pirin Sings" before Koprivshtitsa. Here the festivities are more intimate, I can get acquainted with more people. I was impressed by the instruments. The tamboura has extremely mild sound, but we do not know it in Belgium. Of course, the songs performed by everybody – from young children to elder people – what voices!" |
