Situated extremely picturesquely in the heart of Rhodope Mountain at an altitude of 1 200 m, Momchilovtsi lies 240 km from Sofia and 100 km from Plovdiv. The surrounding area boasts a favourable geographic location and sufficient natural factors to make it a popular holiday target: good transport access, mountain climate with a marked Mediterranean influence, clear steams full of Balkan trout, abundances of wild fruit, herbs and mushrooms, rich and varied fauna, protected natural phenomena and wildlife reserves. The population is approximately 3000 people and a large number of the residents are enthusiastic participants in the festivities of Rhodope folklore.
The preserved original folklore, customs and crafts offer you the unique chance to acquire basic skills in hobby courses on wood-carving, weaving typical Rhodope fabrics and rugs, Bulgarian embroidery, folk dances, playing the Rhodope bagpipe, etc. You can also take part in the preparation and staging of traditional folk fairs and celebrations of Christmas, New Year's Eve, Easter, St. George's Day, St. Elija's Day, etc. There is also a group for authentic folklore, whose members are ready to offer active assistance to participants in the summer seminar. Momchilovtsi has all the facilities for study and practice. There are classrooms with wooden floors for dance, rooms for music and singing, and workshops for the arts and crafts.
The village offers a number of small, private, well-furnished and cozy hotels in several categories that can offer comforts and service in accordance with the individual wishes of the participants. The nearby area offers excellent conditions for outings, hiking tours, daily excursions to interesting natural and man-made landmarks, cave exploration, photo-safaris, fishing and various outdoor recreational activities like heliotherapy, jogging, etc. In addition, the region is a paradise for hunters. Bulgaria's largest hunting ground - Kormisosh - is located 15 km from Momchilovtsi.
