Leshten is a pretty, picturesque and romantic village situated some 200 km south of Sofia and just several kilometers away from the town of Gotse Delchev in a northeast direction.
The village is an architectural and ethnographic reserve with its thirty traditional homes built in old Bulgarian style. The houses have spacious terraces (so-called "chardak"), blossoming gardens and cozy living rooms with fireplaces, where guests can cook their own meals. Each house has its own spirit and the smell of wood can be felt everywhere. The village also has its restaurants and pubs where one can taste traditional Bulgarian cuisine. The other half of the houses are used as taverns by local inhabitants. All houses are connected to the main street covered with oval stones, so-called "kaldarum". This charming village offers a rich variety of choices for a memorable holiday and opportunities for hunting, fishing, riding, and trekking. One can enjoy every minute of his staying in the quietness and coziness of the village, looking at some elderly people, carrying bunches of twigs for their fireplaces, single carts passing through the narrow cobbled road and admiring the unforgettable view to the mountains revealed in their whole beauty there.
