This is the greatest Bulgarian folklore festival, world renownew, which takes place once in every 4 years. The First National Festival of Bulgarian Folklore was held between 12th and 15th of August 1965. The event took place in the location of Voyvodenets near Koprivshtitsa. The participants numbered more than 4,000 folk singers, players of folk instruments, dancers, narrators of tales and legends from all over the country. Numerous folk costumes and folk art crafts were demonstrated. All this preconditioned the outlook of the following festivals. In present-day festivals, more that 18.000 participants - singers, musicians, folk dancers and folk tales narrators - present the authentic Bulgarian Folklore for 5 days! The 250 000 guests that come in Koprivshtitsa have the opportunity to admire also an exhibition of Bulgarian crafts and manufactures from all over Bulgaria. Bulgarian national Television and national Radio have direct broadcasts of all the Festival activities.
