The winery was built and opened in 2008 as a destillery. Its vineyard consists of 80 acres of Red Misket and 80 acres of Dimyat, both traditional bulgarian grape varieties, grown for the production of high-quality grape brandies. The vascular capacity for destillates’ maturing and aging came up to a total of 25, 000 liters, consisting mainly of 225, 350 and 500 litre oak barrels. In 2010 Karabunar Winery was expanded and modernized, so as to achieve its full potential in the production of white and red wines and wine materials of a high quality. At present, the winery has a production processing capacity of 400,000 tons of grapes. After the expansion of the winery began the vinification of the grapes from it's vinyards in Kilifarevo, Veliko Tarnovo municipality, which consist of 180 acres from the grape varieties Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Fran and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wines produced from those vine plantations are known by the name "Bulgarian Heritage" and the grape brandies – under the names "Kulturna", "Bastunite" and "Sharovitsa".
