Dragalevski Monastery is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain, close to Sofia’s Dragalevtsi neighborhood, in a picturesque site among beech-trees. It is one of the oldest monasteries in the outskirts of Sofia. Established during the reign of Tsar Ivan Alexander (1331-1371), as stated in a charter of Tsar Ivan Shishman providing title on the rights an ownership of the monastery. It was a large cloister and was called "Royal Monastery". The monastery was a representative of the Sofia school of literature. During the 17th century a monastic school was established there. Over the years of the struggles for National Liberation Dragalevski Monastery was a centre of revolutionary activity. It was often visited by the apostle of liberty Vasil Levski.
