Beglika Fest is one of the most exotic and most meaningful events in summer, which combines art, sport and nature to create a model for an annual event that unites people and nature in a harmonious whole. There is a reason to call Beglika Fest "the different festival" which can be definitely considered as the greenest and most eco-oriented Bulgarian festival. It takes place in the Western Rhodopes, near the dam Golyam Beglik, which is located about 30 km from the town of Batak. The condition of the road from Sofia is decent, so driving will take approximately 3 hours but there are also organized transport services. At the place you will find secure parking plus few camping areas (one is especially for families). The dam is located at 1500 m altitude so the evenings might be very cold. The festival's program includes sports, music, movies, eco-artworkshops and presentations.
Of course, you can just walk around and lie down with a book in hand, but Beglika festival offers many other activities - both fun and friendly. You can join the Agriculture and Nutrition Forum (includes interesting things like a workshop for bread kneading, workshop of the "Bees and humans" campaign and lectures on biodiversity in the agriculture or to learn how to build with straw, to play folk games, to learn to play the didgeridoo and understand what the biggest advantages of the so-called deep massage are. Beglika Fest is an announcement for a way of life that motivates us to strive for responsible consumption and minimize our environmental footprints. The first Beglika festival was organized in 2008 and since then it takes place every year in August.
