Exhibition: The National Archaeological Museum is located in a building which is a cultural monument – Byuyk Camii (The Great Mosque) from the XV century. The museum was established in 1893 in the presence of the Bulgarian Prince Ferdinand I. The museum yard is converted in lapidarium – a park arranged with stone monuments (architectural elements, burial plates, etc.). A permanent exhibition of Ancient and Mediaeval monuments is displayed in the central hall and the permanent exhibition of Prehistoric monuments is at the second floor. Different temporary exhibitions are arranged in the other halls with artifacts from the rich museum fund. 

     Selected from the collections: a collection from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age (1300 – 1000 BC), the golden treasure of Valchitrun (14th–12th c. BC.), a rich collection of Thracian treasures, stone monuments, the biggest numismatic collection in Bulgaria, a copy of Madara Horseman – the most famous Mediaeval Bulgarian monument (8th century).
