Sofia Airport is the main airport in Sofia, Bulgaria. Located 5 km east of the centre of Sofia, it also includes Vrazhdebna Air Base of the Bulgarian Air Force. Brussels Blvd. is the main thoroughfare and the easiest way to reach Sofia Airport. Via Brussels Blvd. and Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd., Sofia Airport is connected westwards to the city centre and eastwards to Trakya highway. From the northern city areas, Sofia Airport is conveniently accessible via the East Tangent Str. Its junction with Botevgradsko Shose Blvd. opens an exit into Hemus highway. The airport was initially built in the late 1930s. Sofia Airport was modernized since 2000, while second terminal was opened in 2006. While waiting for your luggage, you can visit the rather attractive duty free shop in the arrivals hall where you can purchase goods using US Dollars or Euros. Please note: you will need to keep a coin of 1 Euro handy if you want to use a luggage trolley. On leaving the luggage claim area you may be selected at random to have your luggage x-rayed or searched.
